I was admitted as a solicitor in 1980 and initially worked for 5 years in a law centre in the East End of London before going into private practice, most recently in Oxford from 1993 – 2005, when I specialised mainly in clinical negligence litigation. I gave up legal work when the family moved to Edinburgh in 2005, taking on several voluntary roles and running two academic conferences there before we moved back to Oxford in  2009.

I became a trustee in December 2010, and completed the volunteer preparation course in June 2011. Our 5 children now range from 21 to 36, but I have 'done' 24 hour parenting, and know both the stresses and the joys of hectic family life.
