Families & Referrers
Home-Start Oxford provides home-visits to families where there is at least one child under the age of five. Befriending is offered at times of stress by trained volunteers who work towards increasing the confidence and independence of parents through:
Providing emotional and practical support to families in their own homes, respecting each family’s dignity and identity
Tailoring support to the needs of each family, working together to build confidence, strengthen relationships and have fun for the ultimate benefit of the children.
Our friendly and professional volunteers, offer effective and non-judgemental support. The relationship between the Home-Start volunteer and the family is established by choice. We carefully match each family to the right volunteer for them.
Encouraging parents´ strengths, reassuring parents that challenges faced when raising children are not unusual; enabling a loving, fun and nurturing home.
Encouraging families to widen their network of relationships and to utilise community support and services effectively.
Who can refer a family to Home-Start?
Referrals can be made by any statutory or voluntary agency, working with a family with children aged under five.
Families can also make contact with us themselves, or may be referred by a family member or friend.
We ask you to discuss with the family needing support, before making the referral. To ensure that we are offering a safe service, we have a cap on the number of families we can work with at any one time. To ensure we have availability it can be helpful to give us a call before completing a referral form to avoid disappointment.
